[Journal Club] Steepest growth re-examined: repercussions for primordial black hole formation

Shu-Lin Cheng

The PBH mass function is important for determining the fraction of the energy density in dark matter (DM) that could be consist of PBHs given current constraints on their detection. I will introduce the work in arXiv: 2204.07573. In this paper, examine the relation between the shape of the power spectrum of the curvature perturbation and the mass function of the PBHs. They show that the mass function is relatively insensitive to the steepness of the growth of the power spectrum, and highlight the robustness of the steepest growth index for single-field inflation with conservatively smoothed transitions.
